Heartburn-Help |

2-25-98 I started having heartburn when I became pregnant. After about a year I was also
suffering from pains in my chest. In 1993 I had an EKG and a chest x-ray which determined
that my heart was not the problem. I was told that the valve in my stomach (the lower
esophageal sphincter) was open and allowing acid to reflux into the esophagus causing the
pain. I was given Maalox (an antacid, Alumina, Maganesia and Simethicone) for the
heartburn. Sometimes when I sleep, I get the sour saliva taste in my mouth. I keep Tums
(Calcium Carbonate) available on the night stand. My doctor said that I should raise the
head of my bed so that gravity can help keep the stomach contents where it belongs but I
have not done this yet.
