You sound like a person who is scared-to-death of failed surgery and are having great trouble in deciding to have or not have it. In the meantime your going to shoot down everything else that might help others. Everyone is different and has a different reason on how they got here. Some by physical exertion like myself others with poor a diet while others by smoking etc and each has to find the own way back to health. There is something called the placebo affect and simply put it is the mind over body. So what some if some quack benefits and in process others benefit by making themselves believe this is the cure and allowing their body to heal. I even had one of the top GI's in the US tell me the human body has more ways to fix itself than we will never understand using science. These weren't his exact words but I got the message and I hope you will as well.
